India's mineral production grows over 2% in July

The index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector for the month of July 2014 at 118.5, was 2.1% higher as compared to July 2013. The cumulative growth for the period April- July 2014-15 over the corresponding period of previous year stands at (+) 2.8%.

The total value of mineral production (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in the country during July 2014 was Rs 172.79 billion. The contribution of petroleum (crude) was the highest at Rs 57.46 billion (33%). Next in the order of importance were coal Rs 54.03 billion, iron ore Rs 28.42 billion, natural gas (utilized) Rs 16.96 billion, lignite Rs 3.51 billion and limestone Rs 3.95 billion. These six minerals together contributed about 95% of the total value of mineral production in July 2014.

Production level of important minerals in July 2014 were coal 423 lakh tons, lignite 31 lakh tons, natural gas (utilized) 2,650 million cu. m., petroleum (crude) 31 lakh tons, bauxite 1664 thousand tons, chromite 110 thousand tons, copper conc. 9 thousand tons, gold 111 kg., iron ore 126 lakh tons, lead conc. 16 thousand tons, manganese ore 192 thousand tons, zinc conc. 123 thousand tons, apatite & phosphorite 128 thousand tons, dolomite 561 thousand tons, limestone 222 lakh tons, magnesite 24 thousand tons and diamond 3,763 carat.
