Dish TV India turns to profit in Apr-Jun quarter

Dish TV India swung to a profit for the quarter ended June 2015. During the quarter, the company reported a profit of Rs 542.10 million compared with a loss of Rs 149.70 million in the same quarter last year.

Revenues for the quarter rose 19.20% to Rs 7,366.80 million, compared with Rs 6,180 million for the prior year period.

Earnings per share stood at Rs 0.51 compared with negative Rs 0.14 in the same quarter last year.

EBITDA of Rs. 2,368 million higher by a significant 51.3% over the corresponding quarter last fiscal. EBITDA margin at an all-time high of 32.1%.

The board of directors in its meeting held today, has approved and taken on record the unaudited consolidated results of Dish TV for the quarter ended on June 30, 2015.

Dish TV added 390 thousand net subscribers during the quarter. Total subscriber base of 13.3 million at the end of the period.

Subhash Chandra, chairman, Dish TV India, commenting on the macroeconomic environment in the country, said, ''India is transforming. Though the vibrancy is still low, a sense of confidence that things will only get better for us as a nation is largely omnipresent. Such optimism is good not only for the media and entertainment industry but for most industries in general. The proposed big ticket legislative reforms, on seeing the light of the day, would further strengthen the economic position of India in the global scenario.''

Shares of the company declined Rs 2.25, or 1.91%, to trade at Rs 115.50. The total volume of shares traded was 2,868,362 at the BSE (2.12 p.m., Tuesday).
