Indian markets gained on Tuesday snapping earlier losses. At 9.23 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 39.33 points or 0.13% at 29,558.07 with 16 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 9.15 points or 0.10% at 9,136.00 with 23 components gaining.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were ITC (1.08%), Larsen & Toubro (0.89%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.87%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.73%), Coal India (0.67%), and Infosys (0.53%).
On the other hand, Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (3.59%), Axis Bank (1.88%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.24%), Reliance Industries (0.78%), Bharti Airtel (0.67%), and GAIL (India) (0.55%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was positive with 690 advances against 414 declines.
Reliance Power topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,906.32 million. It was followed by Balkrishna Industries (Rs. 2,823.07 million), Divis Laboratories (Rs. 416.42 million) and Idea Cellular (Rs. 123.01 million).
The volume chart was led by Reliance Power with trades of over 60.17 million shares. It was followed by Balkrishna Industries (1.93 million), Idea Cellular (1.31 million) and Jaiprakash Associates (0.65 million).
