Indian markets ended lower on Thursday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 572.28 or 1.59% at 35,312.13 with 28 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 181.75 or 1.69% at 10,601.15 with 48 components posting drop.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Maruti Suzuki India (4.63%), Tata Motors (4.02%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (2.74%), Reliance Industries (2.72%), Bharti Airtel (2.67%), and Asian Paints (2.50%).
On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.57%) were the only gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 695 advances against 1,593 declines.
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,803.16 million. It was followed by Yes Bank (Rs. 654.71 million), I T C (Rs. 568.23 million) and Vakrangee (Rs. 421.73 million).
The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 14.42 million shares. It was followed by Vakrangee (10.80 million), Dish TV India (6.77 million) and Jaiprakash Associates (5.63 million).
