Sensex ends 57 points lower; Nifty settles at 9,119-mark

Indian markets ended lower on Friday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 57.09 or 0.19% at 29,365.30 with 21 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 17.00 or 0.19% at 9,119.40 with 36 components registering drop.

Major losers in the 30-share index were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.41%), Cipla (1.84%), ITC (1.81%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.72%), Wipro (1.36%), and ICICI Bank (1.34%).

On the other hand, HDFC Bank (2.38%), Reliance Industries (2.22%), NTPC (1.83%), Asian Paints (0.43%), Larsen & Toubro (0.39%), and Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.32%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,359 advances against 1,350 declines.

Spicejet topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,409.15 million. It was followed by D L F (Rs. 925.16 million), Kushal Tradelink (Rs. 785.60 million) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (Rs. 584.51 million).

The volume chart was led by Spicejet with trades of over 13.34 million shares. It was followed by Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar (8.86 million), KSK Energy Ventures (8.77 million) and Centrum Capital (7.51 million).
