Canara Bank, the public sector lender, reported a fall of 32.51% in second quarter of fiscal 2016. The bank reported a profit of Rs 3.56 billion for the quarter ended September. 30, 2016, compared with Rs 5.28 billion, a year ago.
The quarterly income totalled at Rs 121.87 billion, a decrease of 4.62% over Rs 127.77 billion in the same period a year ago. The bank has made provision of Rs 15.85 billion, which was higher by 30.78% from prior year period.
The bank's net NPA was at Rs 218.87 billion for the quarter ended September. 30, 2016, as compared to Rs 93.82 billion in the same period last year, representing an increase of 2.33 times.
In percentage term, net NPAs were at 6.69% at the end of the quarter higher than 2.90% from last year period. The capital adequacy ratio (CAR) of the bank under Basel III was at 12.19% as on September. 30, 2016.
Shares of the bank declined Rs 0.1, or 0.03%, to trade at Rs 323.40. The total volume of shares traded was 133,383 at the BSE (11.52 a.m., Wednesday).
