Gold settled lower in futures market on Thursday after a sharp slump in global equities and weakness in the U.S. dollar.

Gold futures fell 2.50 dollars or 0.2 percent to close at USD 1,247.20 per troy ounce at the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Silver futures gained 0.015 dollar or 0.09 percent to close at USD 17.56 per troy ounce at the COMEX.
