Tata Power lights up lives of 28 slum households in South Mumbai

Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, after receiving the affirmation to supply power in South Mumbai reached out to the slums located at the southernmost geographical front of Mumbai. The area pre-dominantly inhabited by the affluent also has a neighborhood with paucities like Garib Janta Nagar, Mahatma Phule Nagar and Machchimar Nagar at Backbay Reclamation. Tata Power reached out to the first set of 28 slum households in Garib Janta Nagar which were devoid of electricity ever since its inception and provisioned power supply thereby lighting up lives the lives of these people.

Tata Power is committed to facilitating power supply to the larger population and is proactively working for the inclusive growth of the community residing in slums in its licensed area. Tata Power has a consumer base of 5, 63,305 consumers with the cheapest tariff in the low end consumers segment and has laid its network in areas like Pendkar Pada, Veer Sambhaji Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Roma Banjara, Bhablicha Bhat, Ambojwadi, Oswal Nagar, MHADA Slums in Malad, Chilkur Balaji etc.                                                                                                                                  

Speaking about this achievement, Ashok Sethi, COO & executive director, Tata Power, said, ''We have always strived to increase our low-end consumer base by providing them with affordable and reliable power.  We will continue to develop our network, using state of the art technology to overcome space constraints and provide safe and secure electricity to our consumers. We welcome our new consumers to our own network. We are thankful to the Maharashtra State Government for their support in our endeavour to provide power supply to low end consumers.''

Shares of the company gained Rs 0.85, or 0.96%, to trade at Rs 89.35. The total volume of shares traded was 263,384 at the BSE (3.19 p.m., Thursday).
