Torrent Power, engaged in generation, transmission and distribution of power, reported a sharp rise in consolidated net profit for the quarter ended March 2014.

During the quarter, the profit of the company surged 7.97 times to Rs 1,774.5 million from Rs 222.4 million in the same quarter previous year.

Total income for the quarter went up 10.92% to Rs 22,035.1 million when compared with the prior year period.

Shares of the company gained Rs 0.75, or 0.53%, to trade at Rs 141.50. The total volume of shares traded was 0 at the BSE (9.07 a.m., Tuesday).
