Punjab National Bank (PNB), one of the leading public sector lenders in India, swung to a loss for the quarter ended March 2018. During the quarter, the bank reported a loss of Rs 134,169 million compared with a profit of Rs 2,619 million in the same quarter previous year.
Total income for the quarter declined 13.63% to Rs 129,456.80 million, compared with Rs 149,893.30 million for the prior year period.
Earnings per share stood negative at Rs 54.89 compared with Rs 1.23 in same quarter last year.
Shares of the bank declined Rs 5.15, or 5.76%, to trade at Rs 84.25. The total volume of shares traded was 1,991,605 at the BSE (3.32 p.m., Tuesday).
