[04:29:22 PM] => Myiris : Welcome to the live chat session.
[04:33:01 PM] => Myiris: Our guest today is Mr. Salim Dawoodani, Vice President - Equity Research, Darashaw & Company.

[04:35:30 PM] => Myiris : Welcome to the chat session Mr. Dawoodani.
[04:36:28 PM] => Salim Dawoodani : Good Afternoon friends.
[04:36:49 PM] => ayanad1: Mr. Dawoodani, around what level one should start looking at buying frontline IT stocks as their results are now out?
[04:37:39 PM] => SD : The very fact that all these scrips are quoted at levels lower than on the days of their results, tells you the true story. Let us also not forget that NASDAQ is still the Pied Piper for global tech stocks and even the movement of our tech scrips would be - to a greater extent - synchronous to that of the NASDAQ.
[04:37:55 PM] => Technically, the bias is currently on the downside, hence weak. Buying can be deferred.
[04:38:10 PM] => dharamprakashjain : Can I buy Mphasis BFL at 440?
[04:40:03 PM] => SD : I wouldn’t .
[04:40:21 PM] => baman-mehta : Sir, as an ardent lover of tech research, my question is what is the secret of your amazing success?
[04:40:40 PM] => SD : Thanks for being magnanimous.
[04:41:06 PM] => One can be a successful Technical Analyst if one is not trading. If trading, then the same Analysis can become justification of the open position.
[04:41:34 PM] => swatisonee : Should I make use of Cadburys open offer? If I do, I will have to pay huge CG tax as I don't wish to make 54 EC investments and pay tax on the interest thereon. Is it true that FIIs have bought Cadbury @over Rs. 500 and so will not be willing to sell?
[04:41:48 PM] => SD : Sorry madam. You have asked a ‘right’ question to the wrong person.
[04:43:06 PM] => sharemits : 5000 Silverline @65.hold or sell? Future of Silverline, Pentamedia Graphics, Himachal Futuristic?
[04:43:20 PM] => SD : Past perfect, present tense, future imperfect!
[04:43:59 PM] => gracecon.com : Whether the market has entered long-term bullish phase?
[04:44:26 PM] => SD : Not yet, still at the crossroads!
[04:46:41 PM] => ysrinivas : What is the technical view on Polaris Soft?
[04:46:56 PM] => SD : Range-bound. Bullish on close above 230. Bearish on close below 160.
[04:47:26 PM] => khaja39 : At the current rate CMC is worth for investment?
[04:47:37 PM] => SD : Beginning can be made on declines.
[04:48:01 PM] => jassi210 : Sir, can you tell me as investor which type of analysis is done for investment in a company and what factor I should see, also suggest me some good IT stocks to invest and get considerable returns?
[04:48:40 PM] => SD : Two major types of analyses viz., Fundamental and Technicals. Fundamental Analysis tells you what to buy. Technical Analysis not only tells you what to buy but also when to buy and more importantly, when to sell.
[04:49:06 PM] => IT scrips are currently precariously perched and hence dicey.
[04:50:43 PM] => prashantraidu : Is it advisable to hold on to Tata power. I own 350 shares at an average cost of Rs 125/- and am hoping to get a return of 15 % in 6 months?
[04:51:18 PM] => SD : Sorry Prashant! For 15 % expected returns, you have already lost over 10%. Please have a risk-management exercise in place to save erosion of hard-earned money.
[04:51:25 PM] => Always pre-assess your risk-reward ratio. If both are equal, then there is no fun in investing. If the risk is higher, then the trade is highly avoidable. Trade only when the return is likely to be atleast three (or rather four) times the risk involved. Always stipulate a stop-loss on your trades and be ruthless in abiding by it.
[04:51:54 PM] => iqbalhusein : I am very pleased to know about your progress.
[04:52:42 PM] => SD : Thanks sir. It’s the grace of the Almighty.
[04:53:30 PM] => Mano : How do you see L&T after the results?
[04:53:41 PM] => SD : I do not look at the fundamentals. Nevertheless, merits inclusion in a portfolio but on declines.
[04:53:51 PM] => Mano : Is ACC a good buy at current levels?
[04:55:03 PM] => SD : Can possibly get it lower.
[04:56:47 PM] => Jai : Which sector do you think will perform better in the next quarter?
[04:57:13 PM] => SD : Auto and pharma, albeit after a correction. Some unsung PSU stocks could be the dark horses.
[04:59:29 PM] => Hasangs : I bought 500 Aftek. Shall I hold or sell?
[04:59:56 PM] => SD : If a medium to long-term investor, book partial profit or hold with a stop-loss of 299. If trading, then be cautious.
[05:00:18 PM] => Pradeep : Your view on media stocks? Which one would you recommend?
[05:00:35 PM] => SD : TV18 is a better bet, but do not rush.
[05:04:25 PM] => Raghu : Which industry can outperform the market expectations in next two quarters. I mean precisely which industry to invest in?
[05:04:53 PM] => SD : Already answered.
[05:05:17 PM] => Hemu : What's your opinion on the quarterly results? Does it send confusing signals? Media has been predicting doomsday for tech, and here we have the top companies coming up with respectable figures.
[05:05:39 PM] => SD : Rather than the results, it is more a play of expectation and discounting. Just because the results are slightly better than the depleted expectations, they look respectable. But even these lower expectations seem to have been discounted in advance.
[05:06:34 PM] => SanjeevB : Would you recommend Infosys at current levels? It looks very unlikely to come down.
[05:06:48 PM] => SD : Do not be so certain; it can!!
[05:07:11 PM] => Jay Arora : As an investor what are the most important things one should be looking at? I am a first time investor.
[05:07:22 PM] => SD : Safety and returns, in this very order.
[05:07:52 PM] => Ranvir : Where do you see the IT stocks and BSE sensex by March 2002?
[05:07:59 PM] => SD : Wish I could hit the bull’s eye on this. Difficult!
[05:09:44 PM] => Manoj T : Is Reliance Petro a good pick at 30 levels?
[05:11:44 PM] => SD : Currently it is at 27.60. I am willing to sell you at 30 if u are interested to buy now. !!! Just kidding. Wait a while, can come down.
[05:12:09 PM] => David : Read somewhere that pharma is poised to be the next big boomer. Do you agree?
[05:13:24 PM] => SD : Yup. Its possible.
[05:13:40 PM] => MariaG : What’s been your returns like for the last fiscal?
[05:16:26 PM] => SD : I do not trade for myself.
[05:16:49 PM] => Simon Jose : What is your view on Ramco systems?
[05:17:13 PM] => SD : Not a bad buy on declines, but with a stop-loss.
[05:20:31 PM] => Manohar : Your view on ZEE's business and future plans. Is it worth entering at current levels?
[05:20:47 PM] => SD : Have not tracked Zee since the past few days.
[05:21:31 PM] => Ramesh Naik : Do you think L&T is a good bet at current levels? What's your opinion on the company?
[05:24:24 PM] => SD : A good buy on declines.
[05:28:32 PM] => Gupta34 : As an investor are there companies which are lying unnoticed, but in your opinion has a bright future?
[05:28:42 PM] => SD : Quite a few. Try to unearth them.
[05:28:53 PM] => Ajay D : Do you believe that SEBI has been an effective regulator? Why?
[05:29:01 PM] => SD : Why me???
[05:29:10 PM] => Manish : Does Mukta Arts interest you?
[05:29:18 PM] => SD : Nope.
[05:29:47 PM] => Nilesh : Now that the US economy is in recession, how long do you think the slowdown will continue? Is there any point in running after equities in this market?
[05:30:07 PM] => SD : It has been proclaimed into a recession, and would be till it is proclaimed out of it!!!Do not chase scrips in this market. It is not an outrageously bullish market. There is enough time to take your pick.
[05:30:34 PM] => Nirmal Jain : I want to invest in Silverline. Your opinion?
[05:30:43 PM] => SD : I would not at this stage.
[05:31:07 PM] => Tommy : Do you think the Indian markets will become as matured as the ones in the developed countries and if yes, when?
[05:31:25 PM] => SD : If the participants attain maturity, the markets are bound to be.
[05:31:33 PM] => Arun : Do you see the interest rates coming down any further?
[05:31:40 PM] => SD : No idea
[05:31:56 PM] => Nimish Sheth : What do you believe are the sectors to invest in today?
[05:32:04 PM] => SD : Invest just partially and retain cash for better opportunities.
[05:36:39 PM] => Shekahr-999 : pl tell me about nucleus software, the right time to enter this stock?
[05:36:49 PM] => SD : No comments about this scrip as I do not track it.
[05:36:58 PM] => Mohan : When do you see the market recovering before the budget ?
[05:37:13 PM] => SD : Traditionally the sensex has rallied in the first fortnight of Feb. Lets wait and see if history repeats itself.
[05:39:24 PM] => Ayan : After looking at Indo Gulf Q3 results what is your view on the stock and fair price according to you for the stock?
[05:39:34 PM] => SD : The scrip is not in my focus list.
[05:40:28 PM] => Ayan : Around what levels do you think Tata Tea becomes a good long term buy?
[05:40:43 PM] => SD : If it fails to sustain above 156, it can drop down to around 130, where buying with a long-term perspective can be considered.
[05:43:48 PM] => Ayan : In your view BASF and SIEMENS are good buy at current levels? What kind of upside expectations in these companies?
[05:44:05 PM] => SD : Can stay invested. Nothing eye-catching on the charts.
[05:44:37 PM] => Ayan : Around what level you think market has strong support and has a fair chance that it can bounce back 100-150 pts from that levels? Also your view on market on the eve of Budget from current level?
[05:44:57 PM] => SD : Based on different parameters there can be hundreds of supports and resistance levels. But just a couple of them eventually prove to be sacrosanct bottoms or tops. Never try to buy at the bottoms or sell at the peaks, because they are apparent only on hindsight. What’s the sense if it falls by 150 points and subsequently rallies by 100 points! Hardly anyone can catch the move with clinical precision.
[05:45:59 PM] => Have already answered the question on budget earlier in this chat.
[05:47:49 PM] => Ayan : After long time IPCL seems to be in upward trend. your view on the stock( near to medium term) Is it worth to buy the stock now at 60 Rs??
[05:48:02 PM] => SD : Scary! I’d rather wait if interested.
[05:48:12 PM] => Sunhli : How much can a technical analysis can be depended w/o knowing the fundamental stock / industry details?
[05:48:29 PM] => SD : To me, Technical Analysis is a behavioural science. It is nothing but a chartical depiction of the emotions of the participants on the bourses. If buying were overwhelming the selling pressure, then the trend would be up and vice-versa.
[05:48:42 PM] => As human beings tend to sustain the same behavioural pattern under a given set of circumstance, so do the share prices. Because, prices – although abstract- are pushed by the participants who are human beings and these human beings are instinctively swayed by the tendencies of hope, fear and greed.
[05:49:00 PM] => Ayan : Which scripts you think are very good but haven't become market fancy yet but has a good chance that they will as the year goes by?
[05:49:18 PM] => SD : Too many, but difficult to hazard a guess and pinpoint some specific scrips.
[05:49:27 PM] => Pcsampat : Will Satyam hold 250 levels or go down further in short term, say 1 week.
[05:49:38 PM] => SD : Do not rule out going below 250.
[05:50:00 PM] => Ayan : After buying REL. Ind. stake in its insurance comp. Does Rel Cap. becomes a good buy ?
[05:50:13 PM] => SD : Am not a fundamental analyst to answer this one.
[05:50:38 PM] => M. Mukundan : I invested in Tata Tea at 173. Should I remain invested if I am able to hold on for 6 months and expect a return of 15-20%.
[05:50:52 PM] => SD : You can even lose that much from the current levels. Exercise caution.
[05:59:52 PM] => Mukundan : Should I remain invested in Tata Tea which i bought at 173 if I am able to look at 6 month time frame?
[06:00:02 PM] => SD : Risky below 156.
[06:00:14 PM] => Ayan : Which new economy companies you find can and will give good return even as a whole turbulent 2002?
[06:04:49 PM] => SD : If you expect the year to be turbulent and the SENSEX to be weak, then hardly anything can be insulated from the turbulence.
[06:05:13 PM] => Amit : What are your views on the media stocks? Which one is the best bet in today's situation?
[06:05:24 PM] => SD : Already answered.
[06:06:38 PM] => Sushil. K : Which is the best low priced stock for investment if the investment horizon is not more than 3 months.
[06:06:49 PM] => SD : All good scrips have rallied in the past four months and would require some cooling off time or a breather. Till then your three months would be over! Better to have a longer time horizon at the current juncture.
[06:07:40 PM] => Meenakshi : Is the software stocks in a midst of recession looking at the latest quarterly result. When do you expect the market to pick up? Thanks.
[06:08:07 PM] => SD : From a robust growth of 125 % to a relatively dreary growth of just 25%; is recession not writ large on the face of it?
[06:08:25 PM] => Personally, if fear that even the software business can turn into a cyclical play like commodities.
[06:08:38 PM] => Anand. T : What should I do with Satyam stock...I hold 975 of them...Should I add on or should I reduce my holdings?
[06:08:48 PM] => SD : If you bought them @ 100, book partial profit!!!!
[06:08:57 PM] => Vijay : Best picks for tomorrow, as an investment for 4 weeks only.
[06:09:09 PM] => SD : We at Darashaw & Co. Ltd. do not look at charts from a speculative or short-term trading perspective.
[06:09:30 PM] => Ravi : Where do you think an investor put his money now where the strategy is to make fast buck over a period of couple of months.
[06:10:08 PM] => SD : In his pocket: atleast it would not have the fear of erosion. Currently, the market is either lackluster or choppy. Wait for the impasse to resolve.
[06:10:26 PM] => Bornunlucky : Sir, I have 50 shares of Infosys at 10075. What should I do?
[06:10:41 PM] => SD : Pray!!!! Because, I do not advocate averaging.
[06:10:53 PM] => Anna : Is Concor and Hind Zincs a good buy?
[06:11:06 PM] => SD : Good on declines from the current levels.
[06:11:18 PM] => Deepak ITM : What is ur view on SAIL?
[06:11:46 PM] => SD : A good long-term hold. Could be a multibagger from the current levels in the next few years. Buy it and forget it. Do not park more than 5 percent of your investible corpus in this scrip.
[06:29:44 PM] => Vipulm : I am thinking of selling my ICICI shares and buying ICICI bank Instead. What do you recommend?
[06:29:59 PM] => SD: If you are saving or gaining something, then it’s ok.
[06:31:19 PM] => Vijay : I hold 975 Satyam comp at an avg price of Rs 170. What do you recomend please.
[06:31:39 PM] => SD: Book profit, atleast partially. Profits on paper have the fear of evaporating.
[06:31:55 PM] => Vijay : What is support for Satyam at the lower side?
[06:32:09 PM] => SD: Quite a few between 111 and 200.
[06:32:30 PM] => Vijay : I hold 1000 IFCI stock. Should I quit the stock or continue to hold?
[06:32:58 PM] => SD: If you are not in a dire need of Rs.3000, stay invested!
[06:33:21 PM] => Vijay : Is there some steam in Biotech. If yes which are the specific scripts?
[06:34:29 PM] => SD: Intermittently we do see some rally, which fizzles out as fast as it had zoomed.
[06:35:05 PM] => Rajesh : What are the prospects of Jupiter Bioscience?
[06:35:20 PM] => SD: Sorry, do not track this scrip.
[06:35:39 PM] => Sachin Rananavare : Is Satyam is a good buy at current level of Rs 250.
[06:35:50 PM] => SD: I’d rather wait. Precariously poised.
[06:36:27 PM] => Shekhar Iyer : Should I hold Reliance at the present price.
[06:36:43 PM] => SD: Yes. But review if it closes below 295.
[06:37:11 PM] => Deepak : Your views on Reliance Industries and Indo Gulf?
[06:37:26 PM] => SD: Reliance covered above. Indo-Gulf review below 33.
[06:38:12 PM] => Abhishek : What is your view on HDFC bank - hold or sell? Bought at 220 few months back.
[06:38:22 PM] => SD: Stay invested. Review if closes for the week below 204.
[06:38:35 PM] => Esquire : What may be the trigger for market to move up?
[06:41:01 PM] => SD: None visible on the horizon currently except for the Budget. But participants are just waiting for the Budget to happen and not knowing what to expect positively from it.
[06:41:15 PM] => Nevertheless, stock market has this tendency to rising (and falling) when hardly anyone would have expected it to. It rallies and falls the most when participants are totally unprepared.
[06:43:23 PM] => By the time they brace themselves up for that, its about to take a U turn.
[06:43:53 PM] => Sanjay : your views about balaji, tips, sri adikari, tv 18, lupin , padmalaya
[06:44:13 PM] => SD: Sorry Sanjay, except for tv 18, I do not track the rest.
[06:44:57 PM] => Ravindra : which web site gives on line option rates? whether i can trade on line in option or future?
[06:45:49 PM] => SD: Sorry, no idea
[06:46:05 PM] => ARSHAD : Can you give me your e-mail address for future guidance.
[06:46:22 PM] => SD: can ask me now.
[06:46:47 PM] => Salim-dawoodani@darashaw.com
[06:46:53 PM] => shekhar iyer : Any idea of Britannia
[06:47:24 PM] => SD: Hold on.
[06:48:08 PM] => Rajesh : what is the future of Aventis Cropscience
[06:49:23 PM] => SD: apparently good
[06:49:34 PM] => yashesh jhaveri : what is the short term trend in old economy stock.
[06:49:53 PM] => SD: some correction likely
[06:50:23 PM] => madhu : can we invest in IT sector now, for short period of a weak.
[06:50:34 PM] => SD: Defer if you can, could be dicey for such a short period.
[06:51:28 PM] => Ayan : Do you think investing around 3250 gives good risk return ratio ???
[06:52:06 PM] => SD: With what time frame?
[06:52:56 PM] => Rajesh : What are the rules for online chat. I am new.
[06:53:20 PM] => SD: Just ask sensible queries to those who know.
[06:53:33 PM] => Gb : Kindly comment on Centurion Bank.
[06:54:53 PM] => SD: Good support between 6 and 7 levels.
[06:55:04 PM] => Madhu : Any day trading formula?
[06:55:22 PM] => SD: Am allergic to it. Sorry!
[06:55:35 PM] => Raghvan : How do you expect Bharathi Tele's listing?
[06:55:45 PM] => SD: Mmmmmmm
[06:59:01 PM] => Ayan : Your view on UTI Bank and IDBI Bank? your chart reading on VSNL? Is wimco a wort looking stock??
[06:59:18 PM] => SD: Both the bank stocks are ok. VSNL is losing fancy, Wimco has already lost.
[06:59:30 PM] => Ayan : Best of Darashaw & co. buy list for myiris viewres?
[07:00:05 PM] => SD: Telco for the long-term till it sustains above 93, first target price 160. ICICI looks ok for 10-15 percent returns in the next few weeks.
[07:00:19 PM] => PC SAMPAT : will infosys hold 3750 level in short term, say 1 week from today.
[07:00:33 PM] => SD: Do not rule out a breach of this level!
[07:02:29 PM] => Shekhar : does technicals make the market or market makes technicals? answer.
[07:02:40 PM] => SD : Markets make technicals and technicals make money.
[07:03:03 PM] => Hemant : Dredging corp. at this price buy/sell
[07:03:19 PM] => SD : Hold. Seems like a PSU bubble!!!!!
[07:04:00 PM] => Ayan : your view on BEL?
[07:04:43 PM] => SD : Hold. But do not expect disinvestment.
[07:05:15 PM] => NR : What are your current top picks & what are the kind of returns u r looking to get from them in a year's time?
[07:05:23 PM] => SD : Telco for long-term.
[07:06:46 PM] => 40 %.

[07:07:45 PM] => Hemant : Wockhart at this price buy/sell
[07:07:53 PM] => SD : Good. Better on declines.
[07:09:05 PM] => Ayan : How does Telco looks on the chart? what is the view by your firm on Bharti IPO? Currently which scripts are under your watch list that may be giving signs of long term bullish breakout?
[07:09:15 PM] => SD : The first question answers your third question. The second one is covered above.
[07:09:41 PM] => Rahul Chaudhary : Will the new budget see any boost for the IT sector?
[07:09:51 PM] => SD : Like what?
[07:10:41 PM] => AT Kabilan: How does Satyam Computers looks on charts? Given the fact that it's divesting its stake in Sify, should it not receive a re-rating upwards?
[07:10:50 PM] => SD : Below 250, its going to be weak.
[07:11:32 PM] => Shivram : What is your outlook for Wipro? Should one sell or Hold?
[07:11:41 PM] => SD : Risky below 1450.
[07:13:30 PM] => Swaroop : How do u foresee option trading &margin trading?
[07:13:37 PM] => SD : The future of option is promising.
[07:14:13 PM] => AT Kabilan: What's your take on Aftek? Is it fundamentally strong scrip? The volumes that i get to see on this counter are mind-boggling. Why such huge volumes?
[07:14:20 PM] => SD : No idea about fundamentals.
[07:15:01 PM] => Possibly a darling of the speculators.
[07:16:58 PM] => AT Kabilan : Do you agree with the view that M&M is available dirt cheap? That the current Market Price doesn't even fully reflect its stake in MBT? Your valued opinion please.
[07:17:24 PM] => SD : M&M is a good buy. Now and on declines.
[07:18:02 PM] => Ayan : is century tex. looks promising to you ?? , How does Hindalco looks on the chart ??
[07:18:10 PM] => SD : Sorry, I do not cover either of these scrips.

[07:18:50 PM] => SD : Better than August last year.
[07:19:28 PM] => Ayan : Do you track Torrent pharma and Nicholas Piramal??If yes your views??
[07:19:44 PM] => SD : No. Sorry.
[07:21:39 PM] => Ayan : Is Escort looks strong in the medium term from current levels?
[07:21:50 PM] => SD : Sorry, do not track this scrip.
[07:22:12 PM] => AT Kabilan : Are BPCL & HPCL good buys at current levels? What's the fair price of IBP, in your opinion?
